Unless the Lord Builds the House

By Pete Fastner – “Unless the LORD build the house, they labor in vain who build. Unless the LORD guard the city, in vain does the guard keep watch” (Psalm 127:1 NABRE).

Without meaning to, many of us get progressively busy with all the tasks and relationships in our lives. Our preparations for Christmas are often a good example of this. There were parties to plan, baking to be done, presents to buy, decorations to put up. All these things were done for many different reasons: tradition, to make people happy (or at least not unhappy), to demonstrate our abilities. The day of Christmas is just that for many, but for Christians it is much more. As we continue to celebrate the Christmas season, let us reflect on all we did to prepare for the coming of the Child Jesus and to focus on that great gift, salvation.

In January, as we wrap up Christmas at Epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord, we may find ourselves losing sight of Jesus in our daily lives.

Don’t let that happen. Be refreshed and renewed at this year’s Winter Teaching Conference. We often need the reminder that, when God is not in charge of our lives, everything we do may have little meaning. Jesus came and promises to change hearts and to change lives, to build the Kingdom of God here on earth. Jesus is calling you anew. He wants you to let Him build your house, to work in every aspect of your life, to bring God’s Kingdom to you in a new way so that you can also play a part in building His Kingdom.

Father Tim Nolan, the former pastor at St. Paul’s in Ham Lake, and Father Byron Hagan, the new parochial vicar at Epiphany, will bookend our day to help us see new ways that we can let God work in our lives.

There will be three sessions of various workshops designed to help us see what areas of our lives need to be given over to the Lord so that He can build the house that God wants for us and so we can let Him guard all those things that are important. There will be praise and worship and times in which people can pray with you. The day is designed to equip you so that you can let God have His Way with you and deepen your relationship with Him.

More information concerning the teaching conference can be found on our website Open yourself up and ask the Lord for His Guidance for this day. We are excited for you to join us and be brought deeper into God’s Kingdom. Come! Jesus is calling you!
